In May 2026, Mauritius proudly joined one of the world's most inspiring global running events as the Wings for Life World Run arrived at Telfair Promenade, Moka. Bringing together runners, walkers, wheelchair participants, families, and supporters, the event united the local community with millions of participants across the globe for one shared purpose: to help find a cure for spinal cord injury. Unlike any traditional race, the Wings for Life World Run sees participants around the world start at exactly the same time, regardless of their location. Instead of running towards a fixed finish line, participants run until they are caught by the innovative Catcher Car, creating a unique and inclusive experience where everyone, from elite athletes to first-time runners, takes part together. Since its launch in 2014, more than 1.8 million participants have joined the movement worldwide. What makes the event even more remarkable is its commitment to research: 100% of all entry fees and donations go directly towards funding groundbreaking spinal cord injury research. To date, the initiative has: Funded 344 research projects Brought together 737 scientific experts to review research proposals Supported research across 19 countries The Mauritius edition at Telfair Promenade showcased the power of community, encouraging participants to run not only for personal achievement but for a global cause that has the potential to change millions of lives. Every kilometre completed represented another step towards advancing research and bringing hope to those living with spinal cord injuries.
